New research based on responses from 300 C-suite executives in companies with at least $1 billion in revenue shows that more than half plan to increase the number of tech hires in 2021 by as much as 20 percent compared to the year before. 83 percent responded they are confident or very confident their demand for tech skills will be met from the talent pool in NYC this year.

Research based on the responses of 400 companies with at least $1 billion in revenue finds that 85 percent of companies in NYC plan to increase hiring new tech talent, and that 87 percent are confident they can find the talent they need locally in NYC. Nearly three-fourths, however, report difficulty recruiting more experienced hires.

Survey: Impact of Emerging Technology on Large Companies and Startups

Research based on the responses of 400 companies with at least $1 billion in revenues and 86 startups finds that 60 percent of large companies and 51 percent of startups in NYC believe that emerging technology is extremely important for the future of their businesses. However, a fraction of those feel extremely prepared to take advantage of these new innovations.

The report also provides a detailed look at the strength of several growing NYC subsectors: Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics, Cybersecurity, and Health and Life Sciences.

2016 NYC Tech Ecosystem

October 2017

The new report—commissioned by Tech:NYC, Association for a Better New York, and the Partnership for New York City—shows shows the overall trends happening in the NYC tech community, including job growth, venture capital growth, and more. NYC’s tech sector has grown 30 percent during the past 10 years, a rate three times higher than the U.S. tech ecosystem and six times higher than the overall U.S. economy. At the end of 2016, the NYC tech sector represented 326,000 jobs, 39,000 of which were gained in the past three years.
