Statement on the Future of Tech:NYC's Leadership

Tech:NYC Executive Director Julie Samuels released the following statement on the future of the organization:

“When we launched Tech:NYC five and a half years ago, the tech industry showed signs of promise but was still finding its footing. We set out with a clear mission: to ensure New York was one of the best places to build and grow a tech company.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the work this organization has done since we launched to achieve this mission — growing to more than 800 members, so many of which have expanded and hired in the city, helped solve problems facing New Yorkers (especially during COVID), raised major fundraising rounds in New York, and gone public.

“There's clearly much more work to be done, but with the maturation of the industry we’re currently seeing here, and with a new administration taking office next year, it feels like a natural time for me to step down as the Executive Director of Tech:NYC and let new leadership write the next chapter for the organization.

‘I've long believed that fresh ideas and leadership are crucial for this organization's continued success, and for that reason I’m excited to hand the reins to the next leader and support them as they take on new challenges with the organization. I’ll be directly involved in the search for a new leader and will remain on the Board of Directors after a transition period.

“The tech industry is poised to lead the recovery in New York and continues to challenge Silicon Valley as the preeminent tech hub in the world. Because of this, and because of the regulatory and policy challenges the industry continues to grapple with, a strong voice advocating for the industry is more important than ever. I know Tech:NYC will remain up to the challenge.”
